Le Blockhaus

a remarkable heritage

Located on the northern part of the beach, between the sea and the dunes, this defense site is the only one of its kind on the Mediterranean coast to have been preserved almost in its entirety, making it of remarkable heritage interest!

Listed as a Monument Historique, the Blockhaus is a major element of the Torreilles defense system, designed to slow down enemy landings during the 2ndnd World War.

Exceptional recognition

Only a few bunkers or positions are listed or classified, mainly on the Atlantic beaches.

Examples include the dolmen-bunker at Petit-Mont d'Arzon (56) and the naval bases at Brest (29) and La Rochelle (17). This recognition is unique on the Mediterranean coast.
